The RtI Process
The RTI process is divided into three tiers. Tier one instruction includes universal teaching strategies that support all students. This type of instruction is found in the regular classroom setting. Tier two instruction is targeted to meet the needs of students that need extra support in any curricular area. Tier three instruction provides intensive intervention for students who have not been responsive to tier one or tier two interventions.
I work with 4th and 5th grade and teach small reading groups at the tier two level of instruction. These groups are determined based on a data-driven decision making process. The fourth and fifth grade teams review a variety of data including testing data and performance data to identify students that will benefit from additional support in reading. Students who qualify for this intervention will meet with me Monday through Friday at a specified time for a period of time based on the type of intervention and their grade level. Every week, I progress monitor students using assessments specific to the intervention. At the end of the intervention period, the teachers and I review this data to determine our next steps. At this time, some students meet their target goals and exit the program. Some may need to continue their intervention while others may need to try a new intervention.
If your child qualifies for an intervention, you will receive an intervention brochure that will explain literacy intervention at Cottonwood Creek.
