About Mrs. Willner:
I am very excited to be starting my 17th year back at Cottonwood Creek Elementary. I have taught in the Cherry Creek School District for the past 22 years. During this time, I have worn many hats. I began my career as a gifted and talented teacher, taught first grade for a number of years, was a reading specialist for eight years and have been an interventionist for the past 7 years. I feel so fortunate to be working at Cottonwood with such great students and supportive families!
I have three core beliefs about teaching and learning:
-I believe that all students can learn
Students come to school with different learning needs and learning styles and as a teacher it is my responsibility to adapt my teaching to meet my students' individual learning needs.
-I believe that learning should be student-centered.
It is my job to provide the support and structure that my students need to learn and to build upon what they know when teaching. It is their job as learners to work hard, make connections, ask questions, and take ownership of their learning. When students are invested in their own learning, the sky is the limit!
-I believe that parents are crucial partners in their child's education
Parents are their children's first teachers and the teachers that move with them from one grade level to the next. I believe that parents are co-teachers, resources, and partners with their children on their journey to lifelong learning. As such, I strive to make personal connections with both my students and their families.
-I believe that learning should be FUN!!
Brain research shows that when children have fun while they are learning they actually learn more!
